Rate terms

Rates are shown on a Bed & Breakfast basis. Full Board rates are available on request.

They are inclusive of 10% service charge paid directly to Gal Oya Lodge staff and all Government and Local taxes.

Rates include guided bird walks, bike rides and other select activities in and around the lodge.

Booking a stay at Gal Oya Lodge

What is the best time of year to visit the Lodge?

All year round! The winter months (Oct-May) are cooler and great for birding with lots of migratory species visiting the area. The summer months (Jun-Sep) are warmer but the lake is at its lowest, inviting a wide range of animals to its shore to feed on the green shoots and drink. The opportunity to see swimming elephants is year-round with no particular best time.

Do we need to pay a deposit? Is it refundable?

Yes, a 50% refundable deposit is required at the time of bookng which can be cancelled and refunded any time up to a month before your arrival. The balance is due a month before your stay. Bookings are non-refunable within a month of your stay.

Do we need to book activities/experiences in advance?

It's best to give us an idea on what you would like to do and in regards to the Boat Safari it's best to book in advance. The exact timings and itinary are best decided on arrival after speaking to your Naturalist at the Lodge.

Is Gal Oya Lodge suitable for families and young children?

Yes, we have lots of families staying. However, some activites may not be suitable for young children/infants due to the heat and bumpy roads within the Park. We can advise on what's best for your family.

Getting to Gal Oya Lodge

How long does it take to get to Gal Oya Lodge from Colombo?

About 7 hours but we do not reccomend guests doing this. It's better to break up the joureny. Most of our guests are doing a loop around the island in which case we're a well-placed stopping point. Only 2.5 hrs from Ella and 3.5hrs from Kandy.

Do you provide transfers? What do they cost?

We don't have in-house vehicles but can definitely organsie transfers using an outsourced provider. Please get in touch for a quote.

Are the roads fine for all vehicles?

Yes, the roads are tarmacced most of the way to the Lodge apart from the last 150m. If the roads are bad - perhaps because of heavy rain - we can send a jeep to pick you up for the last stretch.

Staying at Gal Oya Lodge

What should we pack for a stay at the Lodge?

Light neutral-coloured clothes and a good pair of walking shoes. While on a walk you may prefer long trousers as the grass can be quite sharp. A sun hat, suncreen, and ideally a pair of binoculars are obvious suggestions. Some insect repelent for the evenings is a good idea too.

What’s a perfect amount of time to spend at Gal Oya?

We would reccomend 3 nights. We have a choice of 10 activites so this gives some time to experince a good selection of them and a bit of time relaxing by the pool. We do not recomend 1 night stays at all.

Is there wi-fi at the Lodge?

There is no WiFi at all at the Lodge! We have very limited phone signal and the office has a CDMA line which guests can use to contact family etc. in case of emergency.

Is there room service?

No, we do not offer room service as we are in the jungle and want to avioid insects and other unwanted visitors.

Do the rooms have air-conditioning?

No, we have fans in all the rooms and can always provide additional free standing fans if required.
